December2014-March2015JacksonJournal25DiscussionTisarticlediscussestheleadershipnexusbetweenRecruitersandDrillSergeantsinouropiniontheyarethemostimportantandsignicantNCOsinanewSoldierslie.BydevelopingaconnectionandrelationshiptheseNCOscouldnotonlyenhancethetraininganddevelopmentoSoldiersbutalsocreateSoldierswhoarebetterpreparedtomeetthechallengesoBasicCombatrainingBCAdvancedIndividualrainingAIandsuccessullyentertheArmyProession.WewitnessedthepowerothisconnectionwhenwebeganutilizingourgreatestassetBCatFortSill.AvaluableconduitwasbuiltconnectingtheDrillSergeantsRecruitersandthecommunity.Letssetthestage.WeweresueringromFSdecliningenlistment.Intherecruitingworldthatsdreadul.Itsdownrighthorric.Becauseothelossessotheyrecalledwedecidedtorevamptheprogram.Weeklyandquarterlyeventswereimplementedtostemthetide.Weeklyeventsinvolvedhomegrownprogramsatthestationlevel.TequarterlyeventsinvolvedBCatFortSillwhichincludedallFSinthecompanyonaveragetherewereapproximately65FSinthepoolatonetime.OurRecruitersdevelopedthetraining.EventsincludedFSOlympicsFlag-FootballDrillandCeremonytheEngagementSkillsrainingESexperienceandeducationalvisitstothepostmuseumjusttonameaew.TosewereantasticengagementsbutwhatweoundtobethebesteventwastheactualFSandBCSoldierexperience.TisgavetheDrillSergeantsRecruitersandFStheopportunitytointeractinaproessionalmilitaryenvironment.OncewemadethedecisionandexecutedourrsteventtheSoldierswereenlivenedandseeminglymorecommittedtotheirenlistment.Itturnedouttobequitetherecruitingtool.TeFSthoroughlyenjoyedtheexperience.Participationincreasedasdidenlistments.Furthermoreword-o-mouthrecruitingbecameourbestreerraltoolitwasunbelievable.FSwereinvitingriendsultimatelymorerecruitsandamilymemberstoourevents.Teparentswerethrilled.Teywitnessedrst-handwhatBCwasallabout.NomorerelyingonnewsstoriesNexusorgossip.Forthistheywereappreciative.Tistypeotrustdevelopmentgoesalongwayinthecommunity.AdditionallytheRecruitersenjoyedshowingthetrainingprocesstotheamiliesaswellasinteractingwiththeDrillSergeants.DevelopingtheConnectionOneparticulareventweheldwasaneye-openerandprobablyourbestexample.Itincludedabarrackswalk-throughace-to-acechatswithbasictraineesandFSpresentationsonvariousbarrackslieoperationsandobservinglieinthecompanyareaallowhichwasledandguidedbytheDrillSergeantsandRecruiters.FSwereabletoobserveormationsmarchingandroutineBClie.BasicrainingSoldiersdiscussedthenuancesobarrackslieshowingFShowtorollsockscleanthelatrineandoldabunk.SomewereexcitedtoshowtheirlockersdiscusswritinglettersgettinglettersPtestsrangestrainingyounameit.IronicallymanyotheBCSoldiersrememberedbeingintherecruitsshoesnottoolongago.FSalsogottopartakeintheirrstomanyMealsReadytoEatMRE.DrillSergeantsnotmissingabeatinstructedorderedanddirectedtheSoldiersjustlikewewerenteventhere.Whatanepiphanyoreveryone.TankyoutoourNCOswhoeitherrecommendedoratleastboughtintotheideaoincorporatingtheBCelementintoourFSprogram.Itturnedouttobeaverysuccessulendeavor.ExposingutureSoldierstotherealitiesoBCwasinvaluableandinstrumental.OcoursetheDrillSergeantswerenothingshortoproessionalconsummateleaders.TeyprovidedtheFSwithasenseowhatwastocome.Techallenges.Tepossibilities.Teaccomplishments.Teirundeniableandexquisiteleadershipwasimportanttooursuccess.WedberemisstonotmentiontheBCbattalionandbrigadeleadership.Tiscollectionomenandwomenwhoallowedustotraininandontheirpropertywascritical.TeytoounderstoodthevitalconnectionneededbetweentherecruittheRecruitersandtheDrillSergeants.othemitmadetoomuchsense.OurquarterlyBCeventsopenedthefoodgatestoanuntappedresource.WeoundourstrideonceweengagedBC.WewitnessedanincreaseintheFSsexcitementandcommitmenttotheprogram.Itprovedtobeimportantinbuildingtheconnection.
